Getting to Ghent

Arriving by Eurostar or Thalys in Brussels South Station (Bruxelles Midi/Brussel-Zuid)

There are several direct trains from Brussels South Station to Ghent on weekdays and over the weekend, but be aware that trains with final destination GENT-SINT-PIETERS are slow trains, stopping at every small station along the way. You need a train with a more distant final destination: GENT-DE PANNE; GENT-OOSTENDE; GENT-KNOKKE-BLANKENBERGE. The journey time to Ghent from Brussels is 30 minutes. The cost of a one-way journey is around €10.

See the Belgian railways website for more details.

Getting to Ghent from Brussels Airport (BRU) by train

You’ll find a train station (Brussels Airport/BRU) at the lowest level of the building, with fast connections to Gent Sint Pieters. The cost of a one-way journey is €15,20.

See the Belgian railways website for more details.

Getting to Ghent from the airport by taxi, shuttle or limo service

You are advised not to take a taxi at the airport taxi-rank, which may turn out to be very expensive, but to book a taxi ahead of time, so that you are met by someone in the arrivals hall. A trip from the airport to Ghent or vice versa should not cost you more than €105.

One shuttle (and limo) possibility is Airway Services. They offer a prebooked shuttle service at the rate of €55 for 1 person (same rate for a couple). They need flight details ahead of time and then group travellers according to real arrival times, with a maximum wait at the airport of 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can opt for their individual limo service at the rate of €80 for the journey. Note that, in both cases, the charge needs to be paid in cash (no creditcard facility). Please email info@airway.be for bookings.

Conference Location

The conference will take place at Ghent University’s Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, located just South of the historical center of town. The easiest way to get there from Ghent Sint Pieters station is to take the number 1 tram (Gent Flanders Expo – Sint-Pieters – Evergem Brielken) into town and get off at the fifth stop (Gent Verlorenkost). From there, it is a short walk to the conference venue at Blandijnberg 2, 9000 Gent.

It is also possible to just walk from the station to the conference location.

See the public transport company’s on-line route planner for more information on schedules and stops.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the station taxi-rank.

Ghent is quite small, and the conference venue is well within walking range of most hotels in the city center.
